Welcome back to school! For those of you who do not know me, I am Toni Harbaugh. I have worked in the Jerome School District for the last 14 years. I started out working at Horizon as a 3rd grade teacher. During that time, I received my masters in special education. After graduating with my masters, I transferred to the Jerome Day Treatment program. I worked with the middle school students there for 4 years. While teaching at Day Treatment, I went back to school and earned my E.Ds. Director of Special Services. After my 4 glorious years at Day Treatment, I went to the middle school. At the middle school I was the 6th grade resource teacher, but ended up working with all grade levels. I was also the department chair and mentored other special education teachers.
This summer I spent 6 days in Washington DC. I traveled with the Council for Exceptional Children. We spent 4 days learning about special education policy that will be discussed and voted on in the next legislative session. On the 5th day, our team of 5, went to capitol hill and meet with our representatives and senators and discussed with them our recommendations that would benefit our students in Idaho. Although they seemed to have an open mind and said they would read our briefs, only time will tell if we made a difference that day on the hill.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know the Horizon students, families and staff. I did have an opportunity to meet a students and parents this summer and look forward to meeting others. My door is always open. If you have a moment, feel free to stop by and say hi or to introduce yourself.
Here’s to an awesome year at Horizon Elementary!
