We would like to thank Lowe’s for the donation of materials to build a Buddy Bench for our playground. We would also like to thank Sean Kirk for donating his time to build the bench for our students! We are excited about getting it outside for the kids to use. One Fish Flying to Lowes! One Fish Flying to Sean!

Once again, Mrs. Fletcher's class is participating in The Global Read Aloud. This year, the class is reading "The BFG" with Mrs. Keller's fourth grade class in New Hall, California. They get together every week via FaceTime to discuss the book. In the chapter titled "The Bloodbottler", Sophie told the BFG that she would come up with a plan to get rid of the mean giants. The students in both classes came up with their own plan for getting rid of the giants, and shared it with each other today. They were amazed at how similar their plans were! They look forward to their book talks every week, and are making some great friends, too!Read more: Global Read Aloud
Summit Elementary is excited this year to be using new reading and math materials. These materials are based on 21st century skills and expectations. The increased rigor of these materials has become apparent, which was expected. J Most students have not been exposed to this type of challenge. They may or have already experienced some “productive struggles.” It is especially important that students get a lot of encouragement as they grow into the new expectations. The confidence that develops in taking on a challenge and succeeding with hard work is a life lesson that we want all of our students to experience. Click here for more information.
