As you know, this has been an unusual winter for the Magic Valley. As a school district, we are required to complete a minimum number of instructional hours in a school year. These hours vary depending on the grade level of the student. The state allows 11 hours of emergency time and we build our calendar with additional time. However, due to the number of snow days this year, we have exhausted our additional and emergency hours.
Originally, the Friday school day was adjusted to the regular Monday - Thursday schedule to last until Spring Break. Due to the recent need for additional snow days, all schools in the Jerome School District (with the exception of Northside Jr/Sr High School), will follow this schedule through the end of the year.
We still feel this is the least disruptive to everyone rather than attending on a holiday, spring break, or extending the school day or school year.
