Horizon Students Learn about Communities

communitiesThe last two weeks our reading series focused on communities and community helpers so during the course of the 2 weeks we discussed our own classroom community. Then discussed our neighborhoods and then our town. We focused on how everyone fits and helps make each of these communities great. One day we made our own houses with our yard. Then after learning about places in our town of significance and the people that help our community in their jobs they all picked a place they would like to create. They were then placed in groups and practiced working together as a community by sharing ideas, working on individual tasks to add to the main idea, and then building these things into one functional place. Finally, we put it all together to form our community by working as a community. They had so much fun and I think they did an amazing job! Some of the places labeled are Horizon, The Hospital, The Police Station, The Fire Department, The Rec Center, and of course McDonalds.

Back to School Concerts

fallconcertOn Friday, September 2, 2016, Horizon Elementary’s 3rd graders came together to show off their musical talents with a back to school concert for the entire school.  These 3rd graders learned these songs last year while they were in 2nd grade and came back this year and performed them for the whole school.  The songs they sang and the message they gave were about leadership and being a great leader.  The 3rd graders did a FANTASTIC job with their performance.  They couldn't have done it without the creativity and imagination of Mrs. Remaley, the music teacher.  She puts so much time and effort in to the concerts she develops for our students and each concert is amazing.  Thank you 3rd graders for such an wonderful performance and a HUGE THANK YOU  to Mrs. Remaley for all of your hard work and dedication to all of our students at Horizon. Click here to see the videos.  Click here to see the photos.  Click here to hear the music.

Congratulations, Alexa!

librarywinnerHorizon Elementary’ s summer reading program was up and running this past summer despite construction at Horizon causing a change of venues.  Horizon students were encouraged to come in to the Jefferson Elementary library each week to get new books to read and to participate in a fun craft or activity.   Horizon Elementary was also partnered with the Jerome Public Library and students were able to win small prizes when they completed their reading logs.  Each time students came to the library they entered their names in for a raffle.  Prizes were given away during the summer and the grand prize of a small tablet was drawn for when school resumed!  In addition to being one of the top summer readers, Alexa Granados, second grade student, was the winner of the Horizon drawing!  Congratulations Alexa!

Thank You, Horizon PTO!

horizonpotsHorizon Elementary would like to give a huge THANK YOU to our PTO parents.  They provided the staff with a wonderful lunch on August 18th for the long day and night the staff had.  They provided us with salad, bread sticks/cheese sticks, pizza, and dessert.  These parents have been so wonderful to our staff and students and have done so much for us in the short time they have been organized.

The PTO parents also had these beautiful pots and plants donated to help decorate the front of our school.  It makes the front entrance look so welcoming and friendly.

THANK YOU PTO!!!!!!  Horizon students and staff appreciate everything you do for us!!!!  We LOVE it!!!
